Sporting strength-in-depth at Inter-School Cross Country

What a day!

The School of 'Mud and Love' hosted the annual Great Walstead Inter-School Cross-country (Thursday 25th January) choosing the best day of the week - a day when the rain, cold and wind failed to turn up for once!

Suffice to say, although the challenging cross-country course was open for business as usual, there was plenty of mud for running shoes/boots to get sucked into - in the end, we only had one lost shoe.

Moreover, the standard across the 12 schools that competed was very high and we would like to thank everyone involved for their time and effort, good sportsmanship and grit and determination - especially for those wearing running trainers, which must have been akin to running on a steeply undulating carpet of axle grease for 1.3km.

Congratulations then to all and for our home team a special well done for such consistency and strength-in-depth across the age groups and across the years that the event has been running (Top 3 four years in a row, winning it in 2017). See below the 2018 GW age group results for girls and boys:

  • U9 Girls = 1st Place
  • U9 Boys = 2nd Place
  • U11 Girls = 1st Place
  • U11 Boys = 2nd Place
  • U13 Girls = 2nd Place
  • U13 Boys = 2nd Place
  • Overall for Shield = 2nd Place

Mr Calvey (Headmaster) was immensely proud of all the GW runners and thanks go to Mr Skelton (Director of Sport) and his team for taking the time to organise such an efficient and heart-felt event that welcomes independent schools from all over the home counties!
